Any thoughts about this example of Bad Media Buy from one of Buy Safe Media group members, an owner of a marketing firm in the US:

"Anything done by ONLY graphic designers (I stress only). God love them they know their trade. DESIGN. Not marketing (this is most graphic designers in my experience. No offense to any graphic designers that know marketing strategies. Extra points for you). It's ridiculous. Do they know which fonts increase readership? What about writing engaging copy? Do they even know what copy is? What about direct response tactics to get the customers to come calling NOW? What about tactics to even get your letters opened? Nope, they know design. But hey they made it pretty and your ad looks cool. Too bad it doesn't work. And you flushed your marketing dollars right down the drain."

Please stop flushing our time down the drain with baited ads for your lobbying group. How exactly is that awful cartoon an example of anything but a waste of time and money?

Hi Kevin,

My intent was to stimulate a discussion, not to offend anyone or advance an agenda. I was simply struck by the severity of that example and as a newcomer to the group thought it would be controversial enough to generate a lot of comment.

I joined Media Pro just recently, hoping to have conversations with publishing and audience development people and learn more about the challenges and potential solutions that might be found on this side of the media equation.

OK, but what exactly is the example of a bad media buy? Is it somewhere in the text"in quotes" or hidden in the cartoon? Sorry if I'm missing something, it's just not clear what exactly the example of a bad media buy is...What the cartoon appears to be is an ad for an auditing service, with no real-world example anywhere.

ps. sorry if my first reply was brusk, but there seems to be an awful lot of people hawking their services here disguised as legit forum questions lately...

Hi Kevin,

The example was from an ongoing discussion on the LinkedIn group. Since
it's too long to cross-post here, if you're interested, you can join our
discussion group at: http://tiny.cc/fak7I

My apologies, I should have made it more clear where the example came
from.
