Are any of you using Drupal 6 for your news sites? If so, how are you ranking content for your front page and sections? I'm asking because in a Joomla site I manage I'm able to manually rank content using arrows and/or number rankings. I've been told that this feature isn't standard in Drupal, and that content ranking has to be managed using publishing dates and "stickiness" attributes. I don't want to have to "trick" Drupal by back-dating content in order to get it to surface above items that were published earlier.

if someone here with a more technical understanding of Drupal does't answer- I would also suggest going over to the Drupal site www.Drupa.org.

I am sure there is a module that would enable this. I did play with Joomla and my impressions is that out of the box, Joomla is easier to be able to accomplish what you are doing. But, there was a ton of stuff in Joomla that drove me nuts.

Cool, thanks, Keith. That pretty much goes with what I've been hearing. I suppose we'll look at using a module to rank content.

Seems like it should be a standard feature, though. Oh well, Drupal is still better...

PREAMBLE: I know I am only finding and responding to this 8 months after it started, but figured I would give some definitive closure.

First off, right out of the box, Drupal does allow you to have your content as "Sticky at top of lists".

Secondly, there is a module called Weight that will accomplish what you are looking to do:

I am having a LOT of fun with Drupal. Sure, it's a little more complex then Joomla (from what I hear), however the flexibility and ample support from the community (such as modules) make it a winner in my book (and a lot of other publishers like Onion.com, FastCompany...).

Cheers,

Andrew

Drupal also has Node Queues and other methods to accomplish this as well....which is what FOLIOmag.com utilizes...

This post smells like cheap unwashed bias.

Like the kind that sits in the dryer for a week, but you still can't get the stink out of it.

Bias about what? We're just chatting about open-source CMS options... nobody has anything to gain here.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. We've been using Drupal for over 6 months now and it has been really great - very powerful and flexible.
