PC magazine, make the announcement, that after their January issue they will be all digital. If your a newsstand buyer, or a subscription buyer, then all you have to do is to download the issue to a computer . The trouble with that is a
lot of people read magazines, at Libraries or for that matter in an office waiting room setting. In the case of Libraries, how are people going to get their magazine fix? If the libraries subscript , to a mag, could you not then just make a copy on a thumb drive, and keep it, maybe pass it around, and end up by passing copyright laws? Libraries, do not have the money to buy computers, for every
person, who want to read a digital mag, or for that matter newspaper. So what is the solution?

The World has moved forward, but many of us still preferred a printed magazine, if we do not support the digital version, they will have to revert back to the print copies

I'm not sure if people who read PC magazine are necessarily the traditional print types and the magazine probably did a lot of research before coming to the decision to go all digital.

I know that many young people just aren't interested in print. I was once at a networking event where a guy told he that his teenage son doesn't like newspapers. It's not that he isn't interested in the news, he thinks the stuff in the paper is often dated. You can have more editions, mini editions, etc relatively quickly online. You can even make it multi-media and interactive. Can't do that with print.

I have been having a debate about the whole future of digital editions on my blog here http://rorybrown.wordpress.com/2008/12/01/digital-editions-trying-t...

My feeling is that they are red herring and publishers should move direct to web pages.

A lot of people seem to disagree & I'd be interested in other publishers (and readers) thoughts.

Rory.

As a subscriber to PC Magazine & PC World over the last couple years, first. let me say I am pissed they are dropping print.

But, I am also glad I hadn't renewed.

Couple thoughts.

When I got the magazine in the mail, I might not have been shopping for things, but did want to keep up on trends with things I might not typically buy (think anti-virus software).

Now, when I need to buy something, like my anti-virus software license just ended, I more often than not ended up on their website looking for the latest review, which I might very well have ready months ago.

I guess if you are an advertiser selling a product, when do you most want to be in front of the customer? When he is window shopping killing time or out looking to buy a solution you happen to provide?
