What is it going to take for paid-circulation publishers to realize newsstand is a looser? If I understand this correctly, they are paying distributors more than $2 per copy - plus printing and shipping - has to be costing publishers $3 per book.
AND
2/3 of the books are unsold and go into the shredder? $9 just to get a book into a reader's hands? Where's the logic in this? The article empathizes with Anderson's "loss" of $6 million from recycling. Those recycled copies are YOUR PRINT DOLLARS going down the drain. How much did you pay to print a ton of books - so your distributor could sell them to the recycler?
A product was released to the public today called postcard+. This product was a little bit of a secret for the past decade where only a few magazines used it to boost their subscription rates. Visit http://www.postcardplus.net for more information. If you don't like the info, at least the dog pictures will keep you entertained.
Enjoy!
