Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on any models that have been successful for reader surveys. Should you give incentives? What kind of incentives work well? Do you do a drawing for a big prize or give everyone a little something?

Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

I receive a dollar bill to fill up surveys. You could try that

The last survey we ran, the prize was a free subscription to one entrant. We got such a big response that we ended up giving out three of them.

if you serve one geograhic market, we find restaurant vouchers work very well, especially if you contra advertising with the restaurant for vouchers. it doesnt cost you anything, the restaurant gets your demographic to try their outlet...and people love to eat.

we also do lucky draws ie offer five ipods to random people who respond..you may have issues with local lottery laws but that works too

Couple things- in the past, one of the publishers I was with would mail out a survey along with a dollar bill. Decent results, and I have seen that approach elsewhere.

If you are running an online survey, depending on how many questions you have, you really ought to be able to generate sufficient response without giving up some kind of premium. At AviationWeek.com, we will donate a $1 to a charity on behalf of the respondent- we do have to deal with some military officers and government officials that cannot accept a $1 in the mail.

One of our competitors actually ran a survey with a $2000 premium! I still can't believe that was what I saw. Obviously, those results would be skewed.

Good luck. Best thing with online is you can also run the survey again later with a premium if you need to.
