Can anyone tell me what is a good software program for paginating a magazine? We're still making copies of the pages and ads, cutting them out, and then laying everything on the floor in a puzzle-like pile to plug in ads. Looking for another way that's not a capital investment.
You may want to take a look at some of these. Personally, I've only done some preliminary evaluations and from what I gathered, they seemed fairly decent.
I have used PageMaker, InDesign, Quark, AdBuilder, Publisher, and I think InDesign is the best! Quark is dieing, even with the new version. Publisher will work and is probably less expensive but it needs to be able to make PDF's to worth anything. InDesign is my favorite because it's so easy to use after learning the other Adobe products. Quark was never easy or intuitive. Pagemaker has come and gone twice. It's made by Adobe but Adobe is backing it's InDesign product and has basically kissed PM good bye. If you know Microsoft word well, I would try publisher for a low end solution if you are trying to keep costs down. It is considered a lower tier program to the industry but most print companies will accept PDF documents from any program. Just make sure you can make a multipage PDF from Publisher before you go that route.
Best wishes on your en devour.
