I guess I qualify as a veteran! I've been in this space for 15 years, and have led major redesigns for lots of publishers and media companies -- Disney, Conde Nast, The Atlantic, Fast Company, and The New York Times, to name a few. I ran the User Experience group at Razorfish for 10 years, and now I run a boutique internet consulting firm called Bond Art + Science.
I have been active in e-Publishing since 2004, first working for Informa Plc. in the UK and now my company creates Online Reader Communities for publishers. It's an interesting new trend that allows publishers to connect with their readers online, they discuss the content and network with each other. Of course there is some good business sense in there as well - i.e. you know which areas your readers are interested in and can tell them which new publications might interest them etc.
We have a number of great publisher case-studies (e.g. lawyer, teacher, faith- and hobby based networks) amongst our 70 customers since 2002. Send a message if you would like to talk to these publishers / hear more. Cheers, Mark
Relatively speaking, I suppose I am a bit of a vet. I started in Europe for Qmags back in 1999 and have been involved since then with the publishing industry from the technology side. Most recently, I left Zmags after having founded their North American operations and leading their building efforts to become a major player in the digital publishing market.
What`s next? Good question. I'm currently in discussion with a number of parties but have yet to decide.
One thing for sure, this industry is never boring!
I've come up from the editorial side, but my passion has become online media and all its incarnations. I oversee the Web sites for two b2b pubs, Tire Business and Rubber & Plastics News. I've redesigned both in my time as Web coordinator, but Tire Business is already on the list again this year.
A major project has been a weekly video newscast I started on Tire Business. (Started last summer as bi-weekly, but we went weekly here in January.) I write, anchor and produce/edit the videos, so they've been keeping me busy. But we have had a lot of success getting them sold--a sponsor bought the 13 episodes produced last year and they signed up again for 13 more weeks so far this year. The videos are available for free here: www.tirebusiness.com/tblive.
I look forward to all the discussions here...very helpful to see what everyone's doing!
