Is anyone out there using a cms that allows them to replicate the foundation / functions of the site, simply awaiting data to fill in the blanks? I guess you would call them templated solutions, but I have started to see a lot more flexability per re-creation of sites recently with certain softwares. Any good ones that you see that use this?

How about now?

Its free to copy things on the internet..unless you are counting the disc space to copy it.

We are using Day Communique as our CMS and have implemented it in a way similar to what you describe. We are building 40+ sites on this package, using the approach to build a base web site instance, and then to copy that site including all pages, templates and components for the next site. We then modify the CSS as necessary for that given brand and then point the components at the correct data sources.

I haven't heard about Day Communique. Would it let you implement new code simultaneously to all sites after you copied it...or are they stale at that point? I'm talking about what you are describing, but with the addition of new code (new functions) automatically inherent in the new sites after they've been copied.
