Hi-looking for your help and input
My name is Jon Howell and I am the Sales manager for an event in the UK called Publishing Expo. It is in it's fourth year and the 2009 Expo looks like being the biggest yet with 120 exhibitors and 3,500 publishing executives attending the two days.

The reason I am a member of this group is to ask fellow members for your help and input for suggestions for our seminar programme for 2009
We are in the planning process for 2009 and whilst I have a large UK base to target for ideas and suggestions I am a big fan of looking outside our pond especially the US as you tend to be early adopters of new technologies/strategies and the UK normally follows.

So if any of you guys have the time and would like to put forward suggestions for topics covering any area of Mobile publishing you have implemented already or are thinking of doing it would be great to hear from you. I would really appreciate and value your input
All seminars/workshops are FREE to attend.

Full details on the focus format of the event can be found at www.publishingexpo.co.uk The site for 2009 will be launched shortly but the 2008 site will give you an idea on the focus, format, flavor of the 2 days on the types of seminars we run.

Whilst the event is UK based and 90% of exhibitors and visitors are from the UK as the show has grown it has attracted interest from European, Middle and Far East and US/Canadian visitors and suppliers to exhibit. The 2009 show will run from February 11-12th at Olympia 2 Hammersmith West London so if any of you guys happen to be in the UK for any reason (not the weather that's for sure :) ) during this time why not pop along-it's completely free to enter and view all the seminars and walk around the exhibition.

Thanks for your time guys and I hope I havent infringed any rules- guidlines of the group-apologies if I have!
I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience
Kind reagrds

Jon

Hi, I think in some arenas Mobile subscriber content and applications will be huge very quickly. Business and investment publishing for instance. I am joining with the hopes of learning more about it.

Mobile as 7th of the Mass Media

Tomi Ahonen's book "Mobile as 7th of the Mass Media" crisply describes how mobile devices will change the media landscape and presents new thinking about how brands and advertisers will communicate with consumers in the future.
The book will be available from Amazon UK in September and Amazon US in Oct.

It is certainly interesting to see the "me-too" impact of App Stores and you will begin to see some open source App Stores emerge in the not too distant future. What is overlooked now, is the number of the so-called apps which are really just accessing a browser with content specific to being displayed for that particular device. The rub is that most of the devices are short on memory and after too many apps, your phone begins to get sluggish or require a reboot (BlackBerry).

So while I believe there will definitely be the ramp up and move to apps/widgets, we will also see a trend back to more mobile friendly websites.

In the market segments we serve, we were surprised to discover with recent research that there was little current interest in receiving content via a mobile device. where there was interest, the i-Phone ap was not the first choice. Also, the segments we anticipated to have the highest affinity had the lowest, and the ones we anticipated to have the lowest affinity had the highest. Go figure! The value of research is alive and well.
