Social network membership as part of a subscription

Part of the online strategy for any magazine can be to set up a social network that enables your readership/community to network. Most of those initiatieves are still 'for free' and are considered an add-on to the online activities of the magazine.
Is there anyone who has experience with incorporating the membership of such a social network as part of a paid subscription (to the magazine, or the website)? I'd like to learn from your experience before starting to 'charge' for social network sites.

Wouldn't it be sweet for communities if the subscription model worked. I'm thinking about charging $2/month or $20/year, and possibly donating half of that to Mom non-profits, based on community vote or raffle.; ▶ Reply to This
