Great idea for a group. You can invite friends in the industry directly to join the group -- they'll just be prompted to join mediaPRO first to participate.

We're just getting started and excited about the possibilities, and will be looking at new ways to promote groups, expand features and more!

Thanks
Dave

Science Magazine
A weekly publication, approx 150 pages and distribution of 140,000.
http://www.sciencemag.org/help/about/about.dtl#section_about-science

Science magazine made the transition to a in-house prepress department in April 2001. In two years the department was profitable. Not only was the organization saving money, Science was producing additional products through repurposing and automation as quickly as it produced the print product. Science magazine utilizes a strict PDF/X1a:2003 workflow for print. Not only did Science increase cost savings with supplying (Brown Printing, Inc.) with verified X1a files, it also decreased error and reduced make-goods.

Advertising
Advertising is preprocessed using Asura, 8.5 sr1 OneVision solution. This server has been integrated with MEIÕs Roundhouse ad tracking system. This allows advertising tracking personnel to preflight and preprocess advertising with little or no preflight experience. The advertising production personnel complete the layout using Adobe InDesign with PDF/X1a files generated from Asura, utilizing automated pagination with Roundhouse and MEIÕs Ad Layout System.

Production
Science utilizes a Dalim Server to maximize the workflow potential with automation and repurposing. Two Epson proofers with a ORIS and GMG front-ends provide support to the magazine for inhouse proofing. A Creo/Kodak scanner provides flatbed and oil mount scanning and page proofs are generated on a Xerox Docucolor 242 with a Fiery EX260 front-end. Digital proofing consists of the ORIS Hybrid Proofing Solution and Dalim Dialogue. Files are repurposed from print for digital magazine production, online PDF access and archiving.
The editorial production is created using QuarkXpress (soon to be transitioned to InDesign) and an offshore vendor for research production.

WebApps
To track production, the preflight department supports ASP webapps for submitting jobs to the department, tracking figures used in the magazine, tracking photo research and submitting jobs for large format printing.
