Would the role for pre-press get limited and shift to the web?

As more and more advertising revenue is directed towards the web, how has pre-press shaped to deliver online media? Is it evolving to provide innovation and asking questions about print? Is pre-press' life limited and does it depend on print? Is the service "pre-press" taking a different meaning and would it be called something else in the future? Some very important questions we need to ask to perceive communication media in its different shifting role.
