We are offering research services to advertisers. Last year my department contributed about $50K in revenue and hope to double that in 2009.

Hi Steve. I worked for Penton Media for nearly 10 years (on the Intertec, Primedia Business, Prism Business Media side) conducting research for B2B magazines. The major issue with being a researcher in publishing is that we ARE invisible. We aren't a direct contributor to revenue, which led to my being laid off in June. Particularly in the B2B space, research was under-utilized, mainly because of $$$.
