Hi Arielle,
To answer your question, I'm an early riser! I tend to go braindead at about 9pm and then wake up at about 3am full of ideas and a mental list of things that I want to research. So I get up! Crazy huh? About the magazine...I'm actually working on 2 publications, Michigan History (MH) and Michigan History for Kids (MHK). I'm the basically the art director for both of them. As far as editorial, I am somewhat involved in MH (I have a hand in which manuscripts are accepted for publication and I do some light editing and proofreading). For MHK I do almost all of the research and writing. It keeps me extremely busy! I enjoy it so much!
Looks like you have a solid career. Do you speak at conferences?
Hi Arielle,
I actually don´t visit the States too often, my only visit to Your exciting country was in 1977... I was 17 and I visited an older couple I had met in Finland 4 years earlier. I spent 3 terrific weeks in Pihiladelphia and visited Washington D.C. and New York for a few days. It was wonderful. These lovely people (my penpals) came to Finland 2 years later to celebrate my baccalaureat. Now they are both dead, but I have occasionally e mail contact with their daughter who lives in Fresno. Lovely story, or?
I´m quite sure I´ll be flying over in the future. I might come in business for some seminar etc or with my family. My teenagers would love to visit the States.
You´re right about Mrs Obama! We´ll absolutely cover her in our December issue and I´m sure we´ll make something deeper later...
About regression; it doesn´t show really yet bud affects budgeting. There will be less ads next year and magazines are going to be thinner. Our magazine came out 10 times this year, next year will publish 8 issues. Publishers are very careful about hiring people now. And I know at least 2 magazines that are going to be out of market soon.
I´m glad if we stay in contact. It´s always a win-win situation to network with collagues abroad.
Have an nice weekend!
Marja
