David Mammano is founder and CEO of Next Step Publishing, Inc., a print and online magazine that helps students plan for college, career and life after high school. David expanded the company’s core product, The Next Step Magazine, from an initial 1995 print run of 10,000 copies and distribution in just Rochester, N.Y., to its current distribution in more than 20,500 U.S. high schools. Next Step products reach more than 1 million students (http://www.nextSTEPmag.com).
In 2007, the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) named Next Step Magazine the young adult Periodical of the Year, a title it won against the Wall Street Journal Classroom Edition, New York Times Upfront Magazine and Scholastic Art Magazine. In 2006, AEP recognized Next Step as winners of the Whole Publication Design and Most Improved Publication young adult categories.
In 2004, David published his first book, 101 Things You Can Do To Become an Outstanding Young Adult. He also recorded an audio CD for college-bound teens and their parents, “College Planning in 30 Minutes.”
A Rochester, N.Y., native, David graduated from the University at Buffalo in 1991 with a bachelor’s in communications/advertising. He is also a graduate of the human relations training at the Dale Carnegie Institute.
David’s outside activities include being the chapter founder and former president of EO Western NY (Entrepreneurs’ Organization-WNY) and is the current sponsorship chair. He is also the instructor for the University of Rochester’s Young Entrepreneur Academy.
Other activities include speaking at local high schools, Junior Achievement and offering resources to the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center.
At his Victor, N.Y. home, David enjoys the company of his wife, Luisa, and their children, Gianluca and Melania.
David’s hobbies include reading, cooking, eating, exercise and repeated attempts at humor.
