The Indian Economy currently is preparing for the after effects of the recession in the US. Most Fortune 500 companies are either laying off employees and/or freezing hirings. Small to medium sized business are freezing hirings and trying to improve efficiency of their existing work force. Also, they are trying to cutback on overhead costs like infrastructre and operations.
As for the "common man", he is cutting back on spending, mostly on luxury items. Retail industry will soon be affected here. However, spending on necessities is still high, so are transportation costs, costs of gas, petrol and diesel. In Mumbai, real estate is still not that badly affected. Housing prices are still rising. But buyers are now far and few in between. I am talking of tier 1 cities in the country. I wouldn't know that well about Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities here.
Hope that helps.. can you shed some light on the deficit in the US economy? I am a US resident and what happens there affects me here too. What is the stituation like where investments and properties are concerned? How badly is the media industry affected? And what is the impact on the retail economy in the upcoming holiday season?
