How are you? The economy was worse, I am wondering whether it affects your business? And how about those international magazines in China? Most of them are backed by international advertisers, I rarely see Chinese domestic ads in those magazines.

That's a great question. As you say, a lot of magazines are launching and it's hard to imagine there's a market for all of them. Also, there are some well-established local brands which will not be as easy to unseat as some of the big foreign publishers might imagine.
There are already plenty of success stories but quite a few which are struggling too. Ad rates are relatively low, competition is high, the buying power of consumers somewhat over-estimated (as you suggest) and regulatory environment very tough for foreign publishers.
That being said, despite the run-away success of the Internet in China, it is a still a highly literate market where people like to read and many of them like to read magazines and newspapers. In a market that big, there are surely still many opportunities for the wise and well-informed.

Nice to be here. I have question about China's mags market. We can see more and more international magazines are landing on the mags market in China. On this June, Time's Instyle Chinese edition was just launched. Do you think , are those mags going to make a big profit through this market? Because it's abvious right now that there is a very limited porportion of people can afford and be reached in current China. Delete Comment
