As publisher of a suburban Sarasota, Fl regional magazine, I've been told that our 30,000 circulation isn't nearly big enough to attract national advertisers.
How practical would it be to assemble a coalition of non-competitive regional or city magazines (say, upscale FLorida magazines, in my case)? I know the tracking and rate allocation might be a nightmare. Is there anybody out there doing it or provinding this for a reasonable fee?
I've come across a few rep firms that have attempted to bundle smaller titles into one buy with not so spectacular results. CPMs can be as low as $10, you pay 25% commission on that, and it's just not worth it. At Louisiana Cookin' we've had success attracting national brands to our 40,000 circ magazine that are a great fit for our audience- Chef Paul Prudhomme's Magic Seasonings, Mahatma brand rice, Viking Range, Cajun Injector, for example.
